I got my birthday present!
My family, as a whole, combined their funds and bought me the gift I requested - a Wok.
We just went to look for it this morning, in the fourth store we hit the jackpot. It's from 'Silit', 'Silargan' line, and as far as I can tell it's a high-tech version of the traditional wok.

I'm very pleased. We really needed something like that in our kitchen. Especially now that quality preparation of vegetables is a big point for me. The price was..... disgustingly high, over half my month's salary. But since four of them were contributing to it, it was manageable.
Glad that my birthday was so conveniently soon, I'd have probably had some problems dishing out that much just for a pan!

Tomorrow we are going to our 'cottage' (I can't think of the more descriptive word). Usually just my parents go, but I really need some distance from the computers and city-life in general. It's supposed to be a nice, sunny day and we hope to harvest some plants and try out some recipes.
Pleasant weekend to the rest of you!

It is better to get something you want, than leave it up to someone and find it isn't qite right.

When I was single I used to do a lot of cooking in my wok, but my hubby is more of a meat and two veg kind of man, so all that changed :(
I am sure you will enjoy using it and experimenting with various receipes.
That's the fun thing about wok's, if in doubt try it out (translation - chuck it in).

Hope you enjoyed your time in the 'cottage'. It will give you a nice break and change of scenery :).

Hope you are having a really really good birthday and holiday.

Weekend was pretty nice. It was nice to walk around the woods and breathe in unpolluted air. We cobbled up many dishes with just the plants around us.
The birthday was OK. I caught a cold on Monday, was pretty bad on Tuesday, but I was already recovering yesterday. I took the T and W off, so I was at home (good), but not so healthy that I could attend a lecture I wanted (bad).
All in all, a decent day. (I managed to download the whole Star Trek: the original Series!)

As for the Wok, I'm all for experimentation. However, I worry that my tries don't ruin it. Two days ago I tried steaming the carrots - the water disappeared more quickly than I anticipated and it burned down on the bottom.
Eventhough user manual said not to use anything abrasive, we had no choice. It was that bad..... ;_;

Thank you for the nice wishes.
